  • How fast are these cars really?

    Just wondering about some cars out there today. How fast are the new Dodge Chargers and the Honda S2000's? How would a stock WS6 stack up or any other F-Bod for that matter. I read on the S2000's that they are powered by a 240HP 4 cylander engine. However they are really light and have a very high RPM range. Are these the reasons they are so fast? One of my buddies said they keep up with Vetts' and Vipers . Can this be true? Thanks all

    Buddy's on crack. Watching too many fast and furious movies.

    I'm not sure exactly how fast the s2000 is, I think they can give us a run for sure, but not the ls2 powered cars and definitly not the Viper. It's not as if it's as light as a Lotus!

    Weight makes up for a lot, but not 200 horsepower!

    I would venture to say that the 350Z I think is quicker in accelaration than an S2000.

      A guy who rents one of the offices in our building has an S2000. He's big into Honda. He claims he beat a friend's '97 Mustang Cobra. I guess that's possible, but he said he doesn't think he could take my car, though it would be a good race.

        With the 425HP HEMI, the Chrysler products are running low 13's, at least in the popular auto rags.

        A Honda S2000 isn't even close. It does have a nice variable cam setup, which requires it to get to about 8,000-9,000rpm for max performance. Peak torque is only about 160 lb-ft at 7,500rpm - you can see you have to wind the pi$$ out of it to get any sort of performance. But its a mid-14's car at best.

          His girlfriends father bought it and i think it was a case of a salesman telling him there the fastest thing in the world to make a $35000 sale. My friend took a drive in it a week ago and said it was the tightest car he's ever driven. Didn't say much about blinding speed. Speaking of 350Z my other friend has one of those and wanted to race. He's pretty insane though so i had to turn him down. Don't wanna be on the news for something stupid haha. Any idea on the Chargers?

            an s2000 will run a low 14, high 13. Maybe the newer ones are quicker. A stock F-body will take a stock s2000.

              Exactly right Fred. You have a great memory. I just researched about 5 different sites. One of them was a Honda message board. Even the Honda guys don't claim the car is fast in the quarter.

              As Fred said, they run 14.5 to 15.0 stock. They make a paltry 163 lb ft of torque at 6500 rpm's. This is the newest car, they lowered the available torque to a lower RPM by increasing from a 2.0 to a 2.2 liter engine.

              So, they are slower than almost all of our cars, and a Viper or Vette would make it look downright silly.

                not even. i have beat a 350z on the freeway. a few older NSX's. older cobras. many many GT, roush stage ones, saleen stage 1, MACH 1, talon awd turbos all done up, SVT focus with a afermarket turbo pushing high boost, many boosted cars pushing high boost, SRT4's, WRX's AUDI TT,. i am not lieing. you cant touch american muscle without alot of money. i got to woodward every SAT and SUN. i beat a 5.0 with headers, heads, Cam, intake rear end and bigger stall, i beat a 74 firebird 400 big block preddy modded, bad driver.

                    I respect some of these new cars for their perfomance, one of them is the 350Z. Talons with Turbos I have seen running very fast at the tracks with few mods. Rousch and Saleen stage one cars are only suspension and CAI, they are not heavily modified. That's it. My friend had a Saleen stage one. It ran 14's. Have you ever considered that these guys may not be interested in racing you? When you are on the street, those other guys may just be ignoring you, honestly.

                    I am all about American Muscle, but I never underestimate my opponent.

                    P.S. New mustang GT's are slow as dirt

                    Raced a guy two weeks ago...he ran a 15.0, then a 14.98. Was hooking 2.1 or 2.2 60's.

                    I bet he was pissed when my 10 year old ride beat him by almost a second and a half.

                          my friend has an s2000 and in no way are they all that they are made up to be i always thought they where turboed for some reason never really looked heavily into them its probably because there is a guy around here running a turboed s2000 and never really reasearched the s2000s

                          well i saw my friend on the highway and i wasnt heavy on gas or anything and it sounded like one of those talons shift wise but they dont launch that fast from waht i recall because the rpm range is so high based

                            Yeah. I immediately thought it was a crazy statement when i heard it. Like i said, probably just some salesman talk passed down. And i wholeheartedly agree with stupid A@$ statement. I have nothing against foreign cars but when kids do them up to look like fast and the furious and have the "nothing can touch me" attitude is when i dislike them. A lot of these mods the guys put in are expensive. They probably put about 15-20,000 in some of these Civics, Jetta's, etc. Why don't they save the hastle and get a F-body? I think they just wanna say "i own a honda" for whatever that is worth. I'll chat with my buddy about the S2000's perfrormance when his girl isn't around. Don't wanna step on toes.

                              The s200 is a nice car but its a low/mid 14 second car. which is still fairly quick but its soo tiny its almost useless.
