How fast are these cars really?

The s200 is a nice car but its a low/mid 14 second car. which is still fairly quick but its soo tiny its almost useless.

I think with a properly transplated Turbo V8 or even a Turbo Mazda rotary, that car would be a scream.

hence the almost, locally there are 2 that run low 12 and high 11 times.

I would love to see some one convert an s2k with an ls1

What would be better off? A turbo V8 S2000, an LS1/LS6 RX-7 or a 5.0/LS1/LS6 Miata? I'm personally a huge fan of the LSX Miata but i don't have the $20,000 to get one

On a road course with a good driver I think the S2000 would do pretty well against some vettes and vipers[there are some very poor drivers that own these],if this was what he was talking about then he is right.

If he was talking 1/4 mile then he was way off.

In practice sunday I ran against a 94RX7,the owner was quite surprised at the times he ran because the boost was ONLY at 18lbs[instead of future 25lbs]and the nitrous wasn't installed yet,he had road course slicks as tires.

Im kinda glad that all those kids driving hondas arent out buying f-bodies for three reasons.

1. It gives the rest of us something to laugh at.

2. They allow to see if your rear view mirror is properly adjusted.

And 3. Theyd probobly be wrecking them every other day, I cant count how many times i see a rice with body damage of one kind or another becuase they just dont take time to care about how they drive or think they own the world. Lets keep the muscle to the enthusiasts like us!

With equal drivers on a road course I don't know how anyone could think that an S2000 could be anywhere close to a viper. A 350 hp vette I could see....maybe. But an admitidly light 240 HP S2000 is going to have NO chance against a 500hp Viper, which is bascially a proven street legal race car with tenacious grip, vomit inducing brakes (Brembo I believe) and enough available torque for 3 S2000's at half of the rpm's.

If you took the WORST Viper driver and the BEST S2000 driver there might be a chance. But two professional drivers would prove that the Viper is the superior machine for the track. These cars don't even compete in similar classes in any kind of GT/class racing that I know of.

That is not to insult the S2000, a car I think is pretty nice looking. I would equate it to a street go cart (I have got to drive one as my friend is a finance manager at a Honda dealer). It is very fun to drive, but no where in the class of a Viper, me thinks.

As amatuer drivers, as Timelord states, it could happen because of the wide array of skill levels of different drivers. But that's the only way.

I was thinking of a very tight road course with few straights that would advantage the Vier/Vette
More akin to SOLO 2 than a Watkins Glen type course.

Dan Gurney once ran down a Car & Driver Editor[forget which one] driving a 87 turbo Supra with a lowly 240 SX in only a few laps!!!!

I respect some of these new cars for their perfomance, one of them is the 350Z. Talons with Turbos I have seen running very fast at the tracks with few mods. Rousch and Saleen stage one cars are only suspension and CAI, they are not heavily modified. That's it. My friend had a Saleen stage one. It ran 14's. Have you ever considered that these guys may not be interested in racing you? When you are on the street, those other guys may just be ignoring you, honestly.

I am all about American Muscle, but I never underestimate my opponent.

Raced a guy two weeks ago...he ran a 15.0, then a 14.98. Was hooking 2.1 or 2.2 60's.

I bet he was pissed when my 10 year old ride beat him by almost a second and a half.

I don't hate the imports, I hate the stupid A*& kids who drive 'em. Once in a while you have to lay the wood to 'em.

New Mustang GT's are high 13s/low 14s... don't judge a car just by one driver's performance or lack thereof... you can find plenty of evidence to support the high 13s/low 14s around, just take a look.

I meant to say newer stangs. It was an '04 GT, auto. And there have been many to run those times that I have seen. Have not seen any 05's yet.

I'm aware the newer ones (05) are considerably better.

its a sports car..thats all. like the miata, triumph...etc... like the soltice is supposed to be.......

and fred and yall are right, an old friend of mine leased the s2000....turned in his camaro ss.........on it. that lasted around 4 months...he ditched it and bought a used 2001 TA... still has that.

now..the old sunbeam tiger...LOL...some of you oldies remember that little hot sport car LOL ?

not even. i have beat a 350z on the freeway. a few older NSX's. older cobras. many many GT, roush stage ones, saleen stage 1, MACH 1, talon awd turbos all done up, SVT focus with a afermarket turbo pushing high boost, many boosted cars pushing high boost, SRT4's, WRX's AUDI TT,. i am not lieing. you cant touch american muscle without alot of money. i got to woodward every SAT and SUN. i beat a 5.0 with headers, heads, Cam, intake rear end and bigger stall, i beat a 74 firebird 400 big block preddy modded, bad driver.

I guess I must just hang out in the wrong places.... my best ever pass (11.1@128) I got clocked by what appeared to be a street legal blown Fox-body Mustang convertible that ran 9.0X@14Xmph in the next lane, and the guy was complaining his MPH was not as high as it should have been. Running from a roll on the street, I've had more than a few 'stangs hold their own, and my car runs 11.5@117 without the nitrous. When my car was a bolt-on motor with a 125-shot of juice, I got wiped out by a Turbo Supra from a roll.......

Sure there are a bunch stockish Mustangs and impports driven by kids who want to race away from every light, and can't get close, but there are a lot of serious street cars around that run big numbers. And most high $$$ import drivers don't have the slightest idea of how to drag race. One of the "F-Body" events at a local track had lots of 4th Gens running from 9's to 15's. About every 2 hours, they would let a local Porsche club that was Auto-Xing in the parking lot come out for 1/4-mile passes. Turbo Porsches and one NSX were running 15's because the owners either didn't have the slightest idea how to drive on a drag strip, or they just figured they didn't want to wipe out a high $$$ clutch with an aggressive launch and hard shifting.

I need to find all these "easy" cars.......

you guys all want to knock on me but i didnt imply there wasnt faster cars. i have ran aginst 9 second cars. and i have road in 9 sec cars. there is definatly cars on woodward that would light me up but i tend to stay within the boundries of what i know my car can do. so lesson for today is not to be so quick to judge. i find it offensive for people to just chime in and rag on me because they think that i am some spoiled teenage punk driving a car daddy bought me and running my mouth and have no idea what i am talking about. you dont know me, so dont judge me. i just turned 18 2 weeks ago. i live at home im goign to be a senior. i have reffed hockey since i was 11 and had 2 jobs at a time since i was 16. i worked 45 hours a week during the summer jsut to pay for the things on my car. i bought my first car when i was 14 for 2 grand sold it for 2700 saved up and bought my firebird for 6300. i have invested over 8,500 into it not including the price of the purchase with little or no help from daddy. i work for what i have. and i didnt exagerate on any of those races. i have some of them on video. and when i get my 2600-3200 stall converter in next week and my trans cooler. ill take it down to woodward and video tape me whooping the **** out of the same cars i listed. they are there every weekend. i dont need to exagerate, or make excuses. im hands down no BS.
