  • What do you guys think?

Okay...so recently my opti went out on me. I just ordered a new opti, as well as front seals and 2 o rings for my water pump shaft.

    Here's my thoughts....
My car has 117,7xx miles on it and I still have my original water pump. I have no issues with it thus far...works like a champ. I was just thinking though, what if my pump goes out on me in future. I figure this would most likely destroy my brand new opti forcing me to have to replace both the water pump and my distributor. I figure it's probably better to replace the water pump now while I'm digging in there rather than doing it again at a later time. The downside is that money's tight, and it would force me to not drive my car for an extra couple weeks to save up for my pump...but I think it's worth it.

I personally am thinking I should change it. What do you guys think? Also, what type of replacement should I go with? Would you guys suggest an aftermarket, electric, or just a GM replacement?

    Thanks!

well .... I think the only way the water pump will mess up your opti is if it springs a leak. Mine on the other hand went out due to the splines wearing down (not sure how the heck that happens) and I was able to change it out without causing any harm to the opti. Our cars have about the same miles so for what its worth I would get around to doing it soon rather than later. That spline failure sent my temps to the redline and would have fried the motor had I not caught it as it was happening. I picked up a GM pump on ebay for cheap. Brand new in box. There is a vendor someone went to thats a GM parts manager or works for a GM parts department that gave an F-bro a good deal.

Change it is my opinion.... fwiw

I think you made your choice already.. IMO Do it all in one shot. It is a pain in the a$$ going back in and taking stuff off. Plus it is good insurance. You don't want to haft to change the opti again. Because of a failing water pump. As you know opti's are not cheap.
