  • 3.73's or 4.10's?

Ok, eventually... not now by any means... I'm looking to beef up the gears in my ride. Just would like some opinions on which way to go.....

Mind you, I am still new, and don't know jack about gears...so lengthy explanations are welcome

You have an M6 I see. Get the 4.10's, that's the best gear for your trans.

After the install, you will have to have your speedo. recalibrated.

How much do you think I am looking at ($$$) ... from the gears to the install ?

Also, how is driving "normally" with that kind of ratio?

You are looking at like 250 for the gears and install kit, and a few hundred for installation. My shop quoted me like 700 for parts and labor I think? Or maybe it was 500. I'm not quite sure, but either way I decided I wasn't going to pay it.

I got a dial indicater and the other specialty tool you need and learned how to use it. Now I just need to buy the gear.

My friend with 4.10's says they're awesome, and speed snaps a lot quicker, it just seems like he is constantly shifting. Makes 6th gear worth something too

a quick check of tbyrne shows
              gears: ~$230
              gears install kit: ~115
              rearend girdle/stud kit: ~175

installation: guessing $150-$200, depending on who you use......ask around for the best gear guy in your area......a sloppy installation you do not want....

as far as normal driving, you will notice the higher gears are comfortable at lower speeds.....40-45 mph in 5th is not unusual.....6th is more usable, and not just an overdrive

when you want to play, there is where the smile factor comes in.......and the gas gauge literally changes before your eyes

I gave $330 for motive performance 4.10 (orange box) including master install with all bearings plus the crush sleeve eliminator spacer and shipping.
I even had it on the porch the next day.

How much time would be shaven off your 0-60 and quarter mile times with a swap to 4.10's on an M6?
