  • Stroker????????????

Guys, I started a different thread about an engine building project and no one answered

Anyway, can anyone tell me what is involved in building a stroker? Like what parts it entails for instance....and maybe the positive/negative of a 396 or 383?

I'm sorry for the redundant post, just trying to get a little education on the parts and science behind the stroker motors.

In general terms - A stroker engine has longer throws on the crankshaft rod journals, so the rods & pistons need to be matched up to the stroke of the crank you are using. On a typical LT1 engine a 383 requires a little clearancing of the block for the rods where the oil pan bolts up and you need to make sure the rods aren't too bulky as well. 396 and bigger might need a small base circle cam (cam on an LSx is up higher) and more clearancing of the block and maybe the bottom of the cylinders too. The cam for a stroker can also have more duration since the intake stroke is longer, and dynamic compression also needs to be figured out because the piston is moving further and compressing a larger volume of air & fuel. There's a lot more to it than this, but you should be able to at least get a rough idea what's involved.
