  • Flywheel problem?...I think?

I cranked my TA the other day and it was clanging around near the flywheel and tranny. Sounded like something was loose. I put it in reverse and backed up a little and it stopped. I went down the highway for about 5mi, and came into town and slowed down to about 45 and it started again. I got out of town and pulled over and it stopped, i took off and it started, pulled over and it stopped again, took off and it was fine until I got home. I killed the car and cranked it again and it started clanging again. It sounds like the flywheel is rubbing on the housing, but its hard to tell where its coming from. Does this sound like it could be the flywheel?
How hard is a do it yourself fix?
Do I need a flywheel made for higher torque?

i did a flywheel replacement on my 76 camaro and just from what you described i would think that if it were the flywheel you would have noise when you start the enginge and the starter turns the flywheel.
if it starts ok and is not making any grinding the flywheel sounds like it is good-
as for where the noise is coming from i can think some one with more knowledge on the forums can maybe help out.
