I'm sure the criminals who buy illegal firearms with no serial numbers will go through all the proper steps to ensure they have stamped ammunition.

This is exactly why law makers are stupid. Lets suppose somebody buys a box of ammo, shoots it, casings are stamped, the casings are picked up, reloaded, used in a crime by a conventional handgun, the serial is traced to the guy who bought the ammo for target practice, and a whole lot of ligation ensues. ...great idea guys!!! About 90% of the ammunition I use are reloads; the casings are from all over creation. This sounds like a great black market ploy; grab the spent casings, reload them, sell them on the black market, all casings left at the scene leads the investigators to some poor unsuspecting individual.
And, of course, the most stupid part of this: ...why would a criminal spend a fortune to purchase a gun and ammo that allows a trace when the black market is full of cheap hardware? Any such criminal that stupid would likely be caught without the ammo trace.

These bills come up simply because the people sponsoring and supporting them know nothing about the field in which they're trying to meddle. A lawmaker had a brilliant idea, but probably had no idea that ammunition could even be reloaded, thus turning his brilliant idea into joke fodder for those who know better. I doubt they'll be big enough to admit their mistake and withdraw the bill, but hopefully it dies a quick death.

We've got hot enough girls here... sure they wear too much clothing 7 months out of the year, but that's a small price to pay not to have to pay OUTRAGEOUS costs of living, deal with the never-ending legislative bullcrappery, and stupid hippies all the time. There's no wolfman here either and modified cars are part of our culture - engrained in our everyday life. They're not viewed as rebellious nuisances, and they aren't continuously targeted by the constant stream of newer and more oppressive legislative bullcrappery.

Jay - You should trademark the word "bullcrappery". Anytime you can fit that into a paragraph twice, it's yours.
