  • 160 Thermostate Online?

Where online can I purchase a 160 degree HYPERTECH thermostate? Give me the website that is the cheapest. How much horsepower gain (I heard up to 10), and do you notice a difference?

Its an $18-20 item.... not sure who would be the cheapest. Part number is 1008. Check out the price on Summit or JEG's, using the part number search. T. Byrne Motorsports sells it for $19.

You won't see much in the way of HP gains at all unless you at least lower the fan on/off temperatures in the PCM. And maybe add a few degrees of timing. Then you might see 10HP.... otherwise, not much at all.

I already have the fans lowered in my car already with the HPP3, but its for the 180 stat. still better then stock fan settings. What do you mean change the timing. What should i set it at using the HPP3?

The design of the LT1 t'stat is unique, because of the "reverse cooling" flow to the heads.

See this info courtesy of Shoebox:

The ignition "timing" advance needs to be adjusted to see a small increase in power. That is the number of degrees the plug fires, in advance of the piston reaching top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. Generally a little more advance will net a small power gain, but too much advance will lead to knocking (detonation). Lowering the coolant temperature reduces the tendancy for detonation.

There is a large table in the PCM program that sets ignition advance as a function of RPM and engine load (MAP is used as a measure of engine load).

Guess I'll keep the 180 then. NOT worth it.
