  • nfb-Kinda...Heads question

I am building a 350 for my firebird...I got this engine complete in a trade. I pulled the heads off to clean them up and to look at the cylinder walls and top of the pistons. Everything looks good. I wanted to see what the heads were and to my suprise the casting numbers dont match. The valves are the same 1.94/1.5, but i dont know what the chamber size is...The casting on one is-3973487 and-333882 on the other. Does it matter that the castings are different? Does anyone know where to find out the diffeces in these heads? I found some info on www.nastyz28.com but not the chamber sizes. plus I don't know if they have ever been milled...Any help will be great...

one is supposed to have bigger intake valves. That cant be good for your engine, or power output

In some ways no. As long the chamber size, valve size, seat composition and casting weights are the same you are fine. I wouldn't mix early and later castings as the latter are lightweight emissions castings that aren't the best choice for high performance work. The 1975-1980 Light Castings, Double heat riser heads are PRONE TO CRACKING.
