  • connecting rods

Hey guys ... Instead of asking how to build a motor I will split the problem into smaller questions ..

first off ... how does one decide between 5.7 and 6.0 connecting rods?

also does any manufacturer come to mind as making a solid light-weight forged steel rod.

I used Eagle forged I beam rods in my 400 SB they seem to be good rods for the money. I went with 5.7" thats standard length for all old style small blocks except the 400 they had short rods. The longer the rod the smaller the angle of the rod as the crankshaft rotates. This reduces cylinder side loading and maybe lets it rev a little more free. Also remember if you buy longer rods you have to buy pistons with a smaller compression height.

great thanks .. I will focus my research on 5.7's and now try to find the proper crank and pistons to match. I need to make max 10.30 compression with .040 bored over block

Just to add to the confusion, there is also a 5.85" rod length.
