  • nfb: Worm Alert! for windows 2000 users

A worm has been unleashed that seeks out a hole in windows 2000 security...... if you have Windows 2000, go to microsoft's page and download the security patch. This is spreading rapidly.

It funny that you should mention this as its currently what I and my co-worker are trying to prevent from getting into out network. People may run into problems when using symantec and the windows updates as there are updates also from symantec. I know for a fact in the enterprise environment that Im working in its a terrible mess, I hope the regular user version is better.

People still use Windows 2000?? lol j/k

If you haven't done so already, also switch to Microsoft Update from Windows Update. Not only will it update Windows, but just about any other Microsoft product as well. Along with that, install the beta of Microsoft's Antispyware. Its one of the best anti-spyware tools out there at the moment. Its supposed to still be free when it is finally released and will be bundled with their anti-virus that comes out in a couple months.

I just downloaded the patch yesterday. We use Windows 2000 Pro at work. Thanks for the heads up, Joe.

          Too late.

All the computers (corporate wide) at work were down Monday due to a virus. You'd sign on and get a popup saying the computer was rebooting, and it would keep doing this over and over and over......

Yeah! After we lost a whole days use of all the computers in the factory! They are still trying to get all the laptops cleaned, as some people haven't been at work.

This reminds me of the time my old company was hit with the Melissa virus. It shut down our entire network for two days. Turned out the IT department traced it back to the Regional VP. Apparentley, she just dismissed the company-wide email that the IT dept sent out a few weeks prior which contained a link to upload the patch. After word spread about that, she didn't leave her office for a solid week. That made it all worth while.
