It's a good idea to have a second person around to hold the hatch up while changing them. It is extremely heavy once you start undoing the struts. Even though they are shot, they're still helping to hold some of it's wieght, and the true wieght of the hatch can be deceiving until you're trying to hold it over your head with no struts attached.

I second that...the hatch is pretty heavy...at least much heavier than I expected. I put a towel and a long wood block to hold it up, but it could have hurt me pretty good if it fell.

I think if you buy them at Autozone they have a lifetime warranty, dunno about any other parts stores. Got my hood struts there... if they break, just pop them off, take them in, and get new ones.
