  • Hey wolfman, tire question?

Got some Kumho ecsta 711's on my car with like 15K on them. Ran over a nail, punctured the side, like new tire, destroyed with no warranty . Got a free used tire to replace it. All other tires are 245/50/16, this one is 255/50/16. I don't want to run it like this for long. It was free though, so I couldn't complain, money is tight now, could not afford any other tire..

Question though... I like the way that tire looks on the back. Would it be all right to replace both rears with some 255/50/16s in just the back? I'll leave the 245's up front. Can I do this? I like the wider look.

there are ton of them, all the big manuf.'s are good..

see, some off shore companies, without naming names, have yet to put the quality control in place and/or use the high cost materials that are needed to build a true high performance tire. thier regular , non speed rated tires surfice the chores of everyday drivers and normal conditions. when it comes to the properties needed to stabilize the belt package, prevent crown edge roll over on hard cornering, proper bead strength needed so the tire does not "slip" on the rim in hard braking applications or acceleration, they just dont have it.....

Wolfie...what's your take on Nitto? I've been running them ever since I got my car...450's on the 16 inchers...and 555 on the 17's. I don't drive hard, so they are wearing well and grip is more than I'll ever need...but just curious on where they land in the your books.

The reason I run Nittos isn't by choice...if I had a choice I'd be running BFG G-Forces...but those are an arm and a leg. Besides...Nitto don't look bad. I like the thread pattern.

Yeah but that's all I could get from the insurance company, cause that's what was on the car when I bought it.

I was actually looking at some good year GSC's for the rear. How about it?

dont do it. the gsc's shoreA (rubber hardness) goes way up after a 6k miles or so... then dry traction drops way off......

Nitto's are ok...treadwear is not that good...but thats the sacrafice for all that sticky traction.

My wife had those in 17 inch her jetta. What a pain those were to get off the rim. The side wall was like hardened concrete.
