  • Intake Question...

Guys, I'm hoping that some of you guys with blower or stroker applications can help me out. I am looking for an intake to go with my stroker build. I am not sure if the LT4 intake is even going to flow enough for my application.

Are there any good, high flowing intakes for LT1's?

    Please help.

An LT-4 intake has taller ports and will flow more than an LT-1 intake. Does that answer the question? A set of LT-4 heads and itake would do the job just fine.

Thanks Joe. Yes, that answers the question. Do you think the LT4 intake can support a 396 with aftermarket heads?

Jerry if you're going with a big buck build, then you can port the stock LT1 intake (few bucks), LT4 intakes have more meat around the ports (few bucks + $199), get your intake extrude-honed (big bucks), or get a sheet-metal intake (real big bucks).

Hmm...i've never really heard of any aftermarket intakes besides the lt4.

LT4 intake is stock GM, not aftermarket. Edelbrock once made an aftermarket intake for the LT1, but it was quickly discontinued. There is someone out there making a sheet metal aluminum intake, but I can't remember the name of the builder. A couple guys on the CamaroZ28 list have done them. There is one for a carbed LT4, but I think that might be GM also.

People are doing conversions on single-plane intakes for the LT1. But you shouldn't need that. Buddy of mine made 1,125 flywheelHP with an LT4 intake, reworked Canfield heads, 20# of Vortech X-trim boost and 381 cubic inches. Are you looking to do more than that?

No, not even close to that Fred. But it answers the question. I am being very modest I think in hoping my 396 build will attain 500HP. I will be using aftermarket heads, have a comlpete stroker shortblock built from my current block, and add all of the necessary add ons, like TB, MAF, headers, injectors, etc to support the build.

I am also going to have the tranny rebuilt and add a torque converter.

If your friend is attaining those kind of numbers I know the LT4 intake will work for me because I will not be near those HP numbers.

                  Thanks for the help everyone.

Do you think my HP hopes are realistic?

The guy doing the motor is awesome as far as his work and is well known in Ohio for his engine work. He's got a 63? Vette running in the 7's and it has won the fastest street car in Ohio competition, so assume at least above average work on the motor.
