  • Need help diagnosing a "miss"

I know you guys are LT1 experts but I am sure you can give me a little guidance in tracking down a miss in my car.

Recently my car has been intermittently cutting out - not stalling - but under acceleration you can feel it cut out. At times at Wot it will back fire. 95% of the time it is fine - hard to pinpoint it. There are no SES codes - I scanned it. I had the guy who tuned the car ride along and he scanned / recorded the drive with Hp tuners. The car seemed to be running fine. MAF checked out OK as did the timing (getting 28 degrees at WOT). A/F looked good. It did miss a couple of times and he could see it on the graphs but could not pinpoint why - it would show the miss and it was picking up knock and cutting timing. I suspected bad gas and replaced the fuel filter - ran through some gas treatment and have been very picky on the gas I am using recently (I have always used 93+ but from time to time got "discount" gas). I have new plugs to install (still on stock ones but only have 30K miles on them) but I am not sure what else to check. Coil pack, fuel pump, fuel injector, collapsing lifter?? Any suggestions appreciated!

A random missfire can be hard to find. My car had one and it turned out to be 4 out of 8 injectors wernt 100%, I had them referbished (best to replace) but to get to that point I had my plugs, wires and distributer/opti replaced.
Because you have a newer f-body alot of the more common suspects for a missfire arn't there. I am suprised that your car isnt throwing a # out. I had no SES light on but I still had the code for the random missfire come out. Also I thought that with the newer models the code isnt so random and will tell you what cylinder is being affected.
If you did any work on it, it would be best to start there and backtrack it too.
