  • Need an auto part

I need a drivers side plastic cover piece that holds all the buttons like door lock and window buttons. The plastic piece is broken underneath where the window buttons are held to it. Do the wires atttached to this piece from underneath all come off, so that I can put a new 1 in? Where can I get 1 for cheap? (Any ideas.)

If you're lucky, you can just go to a junkyard and easily take one free of charge....or pay the 5 bucks for it if you tell them you took it. I personally would just get one at a dealership.

I had to replace my passenger's side window switch last winter. Take a flathead screwdriver, and gently pry off that plastic piece. You'll then be able to pop out the switches...and yes, the wires can be disconnected.

I had to buy a driver side switch trim plate for our '96 Camaro, it was only $16 at the dealer. (There aren't any in junkyards around here)

'87 Camaro - 2.8L MPFI, 700R4 swapped to T5, B&M Ripper Shifter, Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, CATCO high flow cat, K&N air filters, 180 degree thermostat w/200-180 fan switch, 3.42 rear end, Global West steering brace, polyurethane bushings/trans mount, Spohn adjustable torque arm.

I agree with bru....somethings are horribly over priced at the dealership...well everything, but I was willing to pay 9 bucks for a brand new switch when I needed it. That plastic piece will probably cost no more than 20 bucks...and at least it's brand new.

Like I said, if you can find one in good condition at a junkyard, by all means take it. I've gotten my fair share of little trim pieces here and there at junkyards during my restoration processes for various cars over the years.

Called the dealer 23.00 for the part. lol Forget it looks somewhere else for 1. Tried 3 junk car places yesterday, and they NEVER have any 93-97 Firebirds/Formulas/Trans Ams. Emailed that Billy Graham Firebird guy in Alabama yesterday with parts I need havn't heard back from him yet. Maybe I'll call him today.

Hmmmm....4th gens are hard to find at a junkyard, but I've always seemed to manage. That sucks bro.

On a side note, try calling a couple other dealerships. The only reason why I say this is because recently I had to buy that PCV hose that goes from your throttle body in to your passenger side valve cover. I got 3 different prices from 3 different dealerships based on the location of the dealership. The first price was 24 bucks, second was 18, and the cheapest and closest to my house was 12 bucks. Just food for though if it winds up costing less than the part plus shipping from somewhere else.
