Do the programmers that they advertise will increase power really work? Do any of you guys have them? Any opinioins or facts appreciated.

If you're talking about something like the Hypertech, then no. It's only good for speedo recalibration (from tire size changes, gear swap, etc), rev limit change, etc. For more power, the "power tuning" sucks at best.

Diablosport predators have their place, and are a better choice then HPPIII's if you insist on a handheld.
Predators are good for light mod / bolt on cars and offer some limited manual tuning as well.
It's pretty well unanimous that a custom tune and/or laptop solution is the best route for heavily modded cars.
But if you just want to work with new gears, tire changes, fans, shift points, revs... then a used HPP has it's place.
