  • Need help with upgrades.

Ok, well so far I have an SLP cold air intake, along with a flowmaster catback system. What should my next upgrade be to make the car faster. Keep in mind I'm no millionare .

Just about anything you do to increase horsepower is going to use more gas. That's sort of a law of physics thing.

About the only thing I can suggest that won't use too much more gas is headers.

I hear of alot of people taking the screen out of the maf. Although I seen on slp's site the aftermarket one in print it says not to take out if street car. I guess for stuff in air.

One day I'm going to measure the thickness of the screen and calculate the total area that the screen adds. It is so thin and the diameter of the MAF is so much bigger than the throttle body that I really doubt there could possibly be any gain in air volume by removing it. On top of that when air goes through a tube it tends to spin like a screw. The air foil straightens the air so that when it goes over the wire it gets a more uniform cooling of the wire to get a more accurate reading. Removing it would make the sensor less accurate therefore less effective. It bugs me that people remove the screen. Can you tell?

Its an LT1, not an LS1...that would be the intake elbow
I'm assuming you mean SHIFT kit
I'm also assuming you mean the throttle body coolant bypass

Also, please edit a current post to add more content to it, don't post multiple times in a row.

96Camaro, what kind of budget are you looking at? What direction do you want to go with car? What's more important, handling or performance...or both? Let me know, I'm sure I can whip somethin' up for you

Welp, I care more about the strait line performance more then the handleing. And somtime probly closer to may or june I will probly do an lt4 hot cam. Will plugs and wires actualy give me much of a gain? I dont think it would but you guys probly know better. I'm kinda stumped on what to do to my car.

If you do the hot cam, kiss your mileage goodbye.

I'm going to suggest headers. If you stay out of the throttle, they will give you better mileage and more HP when you do get into it. Not only that, they will support more HP down the road as you add other mods. It's your next most logical choice.

plugs and wires prob wouldnt give much gain at all. but would probbley help misfires in the upper rpm. If thats a probblem. NRK's home site has alot of usefull info on plugs. Yea a cam is a good idea but yes mpg may not be so good mybe depending on how wild the cam is. Or mybe some different ratio rockers. Long tube headers put on some pretty good hp and look real nice. I hear puting in spark plugs really isnt fun and might as well if your doing headers.

Welp...what kind of headers would you guys sugest....nothing really over the 500$ mark too much. And how hard is it to do the headers.
