I think that the problem started at some point in my driving today. The thing that it has been doing is that it makes a clunk noise when shifting out of 1st. It is very quiete if it is in the 3500 rpm range but if it is to the floor if it shifts anywhere over 4000 rpm it is loud. It also makes the same noise when shifting into 3rd but it is not as noticeable. Any suggestions on what it would be? Thanks in advance.

Does the clunk noise seem to be coming from under your center console? It could very well be your trans mount. Basically what is happening is the tailshaft of your trans is hitting the underside of your car when accelerating.Originally posted by G Fry33I think that the problem started at some point in my driving today. To replace, get under your car, and at the tailshaft of your trans is your trans crossmember. You might want to support your trans as you do this...but I'm not exactly sure how necessary this is. Take out that bolt, and drop your crossmember. Take off your trans mount then. You'll know if it's the mount based on the fact that it will usually be ripped or almost ripped in half. Get a new one at autozone or any auto parts store. I opted for a polyurethane one simply cause it's stronger than the stock rubber one. Just pop the new one back on there and your good to go.black 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

If you jack the trans up, making sure to use a board of course, you can replace it without removing the cross member. Remove the nut in the center of the crossmember where the tranny mount bolts up. Jack the tranny up a few inches until the screw is clear of the crossmember. Then slide the tranny mount underneath, lower the trans back down, bolt it and you are done.
If you get an energy suspension poly mount you can expect that the trans mount will cause a little vibration through the center console. Some people find it very irritating but I don't mind it at all.
Easy and cheap to fix.

Oh you will need to support the transmission when removing the mount. I just put a block of wood on top of my floor jack.Originally posted by 95TransAmDoes the clunk noise seem to be coming from under your center console? It could very well be your trans mount. Don't get one from AutoZone or any other local parts store. You'll be replacing it again in 6 months if you do. They are a lot thinner than the stock GM mount.
I would advise not getting a prothane. When I had an automatice it transmitted all kinds of vibration up through the body. I couldn't stand it.
I think the energy Suspension one is a little softer and that is what I have now but I never had it when I had an automatic.
People with automatics seam to complain more about the vibrations from the urathane mounts.2002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning

I'm glad I supported mine when I did it then. I didn't think it was necessary, but did it only because I am anal about things like that.Originally posted by Jeff 95 Z28Oh you will need to support the transmission when removing the mount. I just put a block of wood on top of my floor jack.

I did buy a polyurethane one from autozone actually. I bought it over a year ago, and have had no problems since. As a matter of fact, when my tranny started leaking the other day, I did a quick check on my bushings while I was under there, as well as my trans mount and it looked good. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones or something.
The vibration is there, but it is minimal...it doesn't bother me at all.black 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

Sorry I wasn't reffering to a urathane Autozone mount. I was reffering to an Autozone rubber mountOriginally posted by 95TransAmI'm glad I supported mine when I did it then. I didn't think it was necessary, but did it only because I am anal about things like that.

FYI here is a picture of the Caprice Classic police car mount on the left and the Prothane mount on the right. I used the Caprice mount for a couple of years before I put the manual in my car. As you can see it's no worse for the wear.
