  • Which Oil Cooler Filter Adapter Gasket should I use?

Removed my Oil Cooler Filter Adapter Gasket should I use? Part # 88893990 which includes a Black rubber O-ring and a paper gasket or Part # 12369014 which is a Orange Squared O-ring?

My Adapter did not have either gasket included in part # 88893990 it instead had an Orange O-ring which fit perfectly. If I use the Black O-ring it will fit loosely and move but the Squared Orange O-ring fits nice and tight.

All I'm attempting to do is stop my Oil Filter from leaking where it connects to the adaptor housing. Now all I have to do is figure out which gasket is right for my motor. Engine has been rebuilt so not sure what sealed the adaptor to engine block from the factory.

    Thanks for any help.

You need to use the orange flat o-ring and the gasket with the two holes in it for the bolts that attach the adapter.

kevin, thanks sounds right because the black o-ring will not seal the adaptor to the block. But, the paper gasket with the two holes I'm not so sure about because the Adaptor is not held it place by Two bolts. The nut which is on the threaded shaft which the Oil Filter screws onto is the only fastener which secures the housing. My local GM dealer said the paper gasket is not needed for 96-97 LT1's because is not secured in the same way as pre-95 adaptor's are.

Confusing to say the least, but don't forget that my adaptor is an SLP item, not GM. The tranny cooler lines are bolted directly to the adaptor, no rubber hoses or clamps are used. Not sure what a GM 93-95 oil filter adaptor looks like but it's not the same as 96-97 SLP adaptors, as far as I can tell. With that being said I guess the paper gasket is not needed and the GM parts counter guy might actually be right.

      Thanks,

Then use the orange flat o-ring and stitch that bad boy up!
