  • Got my 4.10's ... errrrrr 4.11s !!!!! explain this!

Ok, I'm back to confuse you guys some more ( or maybe confuse myself some more.)

I ordered some Motive 4.10 gears for the stock GM 7.5 10 bolt.

Got the gears, opened the package and started counting teeth.

    37 on the ring, 9 on the pinion. 37/9 = 4.11 !!!!

So I thought I got the wrong damn gears. I called up Motive, (just to verify this was a mishap) and they told me that my gears are FINE, and go ahead and put them in!!! He said they will work fine!! I couldn't believe it!

The guy was obviously busy, and I could tell he had to go, so I didn't get a chance to ask more questions. That is why I'm posting here!!

So, now I'm stuck with, why does the box say 4.10 when they really are 4.11 gears?? Motive says I'm cool, but I don't like how the math doesn't equal the package numbers!!

    Ah!!

    What to do?

They will work fine, but it is interesting that they say 4.10 on the box. 41/10 would be 4.10.

      Exactly....

Glad shoebox gives me the go-ahead though..... at least I CAN install them.

Maybe motive just builds them that way???? Maybe its just up to the brand name?

I expect the gears would also have a diameter stamped on them like the stock ones do.

        7 5/8 or 7.625
