What's up everyone. I need help diagnosing my car, I think I know what it is and did a search but no one described symptoms. Any help is appreciated, I don't have a lot of time or money right now cause I'm in school and this seemed like a good place to start. So what happened to me is I was driving and then all of the sudden my car started like backfiring and sputtering then just died. I can turn it over and it stumbles at about 200 RPMs for a bit then dies again. Seems like it's not getting any spark. It's getting fuel cause I can smell it. Is this the signs of a failed opti-spark? Cap and rotor was replaced a good while ago. Thanks again.

agreed, it is very difficult to help when we don't know anything about the car, and the problem sounds electrical, I had the same thing happen to me one time and it was just that I had some wires that were burned through, but it took forever to find that out. Just give us some more info adn everyone here will be glad to help you out.-Dan

Headers?? I would wait till it is dark outside. Start your car and get a spray bottle of water and spray around your wires where the headers are. Look for arcing. If no arcing, Then check the opti.96 Camaro Z28/A4,Vortech elbow,Moroso CAI,Flowmaster.Addco PHR,LCA,160* Stat,pcmforless,1LE Driveshaft,1LE A/C delete pulley,1LE Front sway bar,Strut brace, sub frames, LT4 knock module,255 lph pump,Cutout,

Yeah it's the unvented opti. If it was a bad wire or two, wouldn't the car still be able to run though? I can't even keep it running, it just stumbles around 2 or 300 RPMs then dies. I will check my wires though, I think I got those around 20,000 miles ago and replaced the plugs at the same time. The car has 158,000 on it.

Yes sounds like something that happened to my z, it was the o2 wire on the drivers side it had been arking out on the exaust. Ran like crap at an idle, when i put the car to the wood or just normal driveing it would tourqe the motor just enough to stop the arking.this might not be the fix but every bit helps.JackZ28

158000 miles... if the opti has never been replaced I'd put my money on that. Otherwise I'd say you burned a wire or two on the headers, but if you've had them for 20,000 miles with no problems, that's unlikely. Focus on the opti. Being a 94, it has OBD I so you can pull the codes yourself, don't need a special scanner for it.Dave M
