  • Paint Question - KEN C, any others?

My mom has a 2003 Navy Blue Metallic Ford Escape Limited. I noticed that on the back door in the right corner, what looks like the clear coat is starting to peel. I tried to scrape it, but it only peeled more. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue, or do I have to take it into the body shop? If anyone has any ideas let me know.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

A couple of questions...Did she buy the car new? Did she have it repaired? If not did the dealer tell her it was repaired? "Usually" factory paint will not peel, instead a poor repair/refinish job will if it was not prepped properly. How big is the area that is peeling? If it is small enough, you could try some touch-up paint to seal the edges (either the color or a clearcoat touch-up). Unfortunately it may peel in other places as well. The only good cure imho is to strip the entire panel and refinish.

Sounds like a repaint is in order.
