  • stock stall on a 96z

I bought my z used almost a year ago. I didnt think anything about it untill recently when I looked at my maf and it was descreened. So the previous owner messed with that any prolly messed with the tranny too. When I hit it it revs up to about 3300 or so and then catches. I didnt think anything about it at 1st because I figured the tach was off. Does the tach read like this in all a4's or do I have a high stall converter?

Stock stall is about 2200. What rpm does it shift at?

Stock LT1 converter has a 1200 RPM stall. LS1's are a little more loose at 1800 RPM.

Could be your converter going. When they start to go and the converter clutch slips abnormally, it will put more heat into converter and then into the tranny. That's not good for the clutches, seals, and rubbers. I've got quite a few laying around with less than ~75k on them. You can have one if ya need it.

Check the tranny fluid level first. A tranny low on fluid will do that.

True. I forgot to mention that.
