  • Gear whine in my Strange Rear Unit

I was doing alot of street racing this weekend and noticed that my brand new strange rear gear whine was begining to get louder and louder. So my question is have anyone has had this problem and is this common when the gears break in and how do i re set them back to normal.

To me it seems all the new ones whine, there is a guy here that folks take their new diffs to, who REinstalls the gears and sets them up correctly and they leave with the diff being VERY quiet.

If the rear end is whining, can we call it a whiney butt? Sorry, I couldn't stop myself.

Also checked the fluid in rear.

When i checked the fluid had copper like very small power metal residue in the pan. Is this normal breakin, or something major.

                Please holla back!

If I paid 2500 bucks for a rear, it had better be set up right. That sucks.

Never had any whine at all from my Strange 12-bolt, and when the car was an M6 it was subjected to 5K Street Twin dumps, with 28x11.5 slicks on well prepared tracks. Took the lickin' and kept in tickin'..... but no whine.

I don't like the sound of that at all. Metal particles means wear.

FWIW, all the Strange 12 bolts I've heard(mine included) whined a lot. I called Strange about mine and they said its the way they set it up. Which is right because decel was nice and quiet.

I couldn't stand it and sold it to my Dad. Even with his bad hearing, he ended up selling it to someone else.
