  • 32mm swaybar???

Just purchased a 32mm 1LE swaybar, but I want to make sure it's actually 32mm before I go through installing it. There's a white sticker on it with the number 26025316. Does anyone know if this corresponds to a 1LE swaybar?

    shbox.com lists a 32mm part# as 26032907. GMpartsdirect.com doesn't distinguish in the description, but lists 26025316 as almost $70 more (list price).

    %$#%$ I think I've been duped.

      I found this:

      The P/N 26025316 is a front sway bar EXC WS6 1LE...96-97 LT1
      The P/N 26032907 is a front sway bar WS6 1LE...94-95 LT1

I don't know what "EXC" means...but 70 bucks means, for me, solid versus hollow, I guess??. My car has installed the same as yours; Dal Slabaugh from Vandevere sent it to me a couple of years ago....

Hope someone could clarify the "EXC" term

      Take care

The point is if the sway bar is solid or hollow....the GM's are hollow

Yes, it matters because of variations in wall thickness, material used, method of production, solid or hollow, etc, etc.

Agreed. Even most tape measures now have metric markings (usually mm's).

I tried to measure it. At the bends it's squashed a bit. At the bend it's 32mm, but at the straight parts it looks like 30mm. I wanted to double check the part number to make sure.

I went to GM parts catalog instead of just looking up the part#. Here's what it lists for stabilizer bar:

                  26025316 w/o perf package 93-97
26025316 coupe w/o hvy duty susp w/o firm ride susp 98-02
26025316 Conv w/o Hvy Duty Susp, w/o firm ride susp 98-02

                  26025315 coupe w/ firm ride susp 98-02

26032907 w/ hvy duty susp, w/o firm ride susp 98-02
26032907 Conv w/o Hvy Duty Susp, w/o firm ride susp 98-02

Looks like it's a 30mm bar. I don't know where Doc is getting his numbers from, but it looks to be a mistake. gmpartsdirect seems to have a mistake in the last entry for the convertible. (should read w/ not w/o)

I was told the part came off a 2002 TransAm WS6.

Well, I'm going to see how the PayPal/E-bay resolution process works. Learned a lesson though...require more proof before jumping on a "deal".

Yes, usually in the case of stabilizer bars, it means "except convertibles".

Being from Canada that is a pretty funny statment as its hard to find a standard tape here. We might be metric but there is still a whole generation that grew up on standard. Then there is my generation which was a hybrid. Sorry to hijack continue on...

btw.... a measuring caliper should be a standard tool in your box.

Give it 10 more years, and we will be primarily using metric ourselves. It's still slightly unatural to me, but it is a much easier and organized way of measurements.

I got the whole "mm" thing down, but I don't know if I will ever get used to saying "KM/h" for speed.
