  • broken exhaust manifold bolt in head>>>>>HELP

My buddy accidently broke a bolt off while we were putting headers on my car. I drilled the bolt and tried using an easy out, but then I broke the easy out. Now to the question. When I pull the head off should I pull the other head off and put a new head gasket on, or would one new gasket be okay? Also should I buy new head bolts on the reinstall?? Thanks for any help you can give.

While you are in there, you should go ahead and do the other headgasket. The head bolts are torque to yield, so they shouldn't be reused.

yeah... while you are in do the other gasket and always get new head bolts as stated above. If the heads are coming off maybe send them out for a port and polish and let the machine shop do a prefessional "uninstall" on the header bolt? I have a broken bolt or two on my Pontiac 400 block and I intend to just let the machine shop handle them after breaking an easy out myself. I have been told they have a tool which basically melts the bolt and it shouldnt add much to the cost over all.
