    Yes but not really easy. The 71 400 is a pontiac Big block. The other problem is It will require the proper Bell housing to fit to a trany. Then the next problem will be headers as it will be har to get them to fit. It can be done bit expect alot of work. I also think It would require moving the Motor mounts. It will not be a straight swap.

      Isnt there a 400 small block? If so, that should bolt right up.

        A pontiac 400 in a 3rd gen f-body?

        That won't just bolt up. It will require a BOP (Buick Olds Pontiac) transmission and possibly some custom motor mounts, a custom length driveshaft and a custom crossmember.

        I'm sure it wouldnt be overly difficult if you have some basic fabrication skills.
        I'd be willing to bet there is someone somewhere that sells the crossmember and motor mounts. You might want to try asking at www.thirdgen.org.

          He is asking about a pontiac 400, not a SBC 400. But yes, if he had a 400 Chevy motor it would bolt directly in.
