  • How noisy is your water pump?

It seems as though my new water pump makes a little whine. I thought the car when new, had a little "whine" of a mechanical noise. Both my LT1 vette and the T/A both seemed like this. Over the years and miles, I thought the T/A's mechanical noises had in general, quieted down. After replacing the water pump about 3K miles ago, I noticed a little bit of whine. I only hear it above 3K rpm in any gear. It isn't loud enough to really sound like something is metal to metal contact. Perhaps I am getting paranoid about the bearing, but I am curious about anyone else's experiences. So, does your pump whine or no?

Never noticed any noise out of my original - 65K before the stroker rebuild. Then I put a new one in the stroker, just for insurance, and no noise that I can hear.... although the solid roller setup does generate a very high underhood noise level so it might mask any noise.

Looks like we have a problem with the polls. Program only includes the first letter of each option?

I'm on my second water pump. I had the first one replaced when the headers went on. Had what appeared to be a very slight leak. I decided to play it safe.

As far as noise...I never really noticed it, but maybe I'm not listening close enough.

              Hi Joe:
No...no noise from the water pump (40000 mi).
Sounds to me the whine comes from the drive belt tensioner. It is "warning" to stuck soon..very soon.

Good point Doc! I think I'll pull the belt and run it.
