  • Seafoam (did search)

Ok well I had just put in new plugs and wires not too long ago. What an expensive and hard thing that was. But I was wanting to know what all of you thought about seafoam. My engine has almost 104k on it right now. And isnt there like a spray type seafoam? And would you just take off your intake and spray it into the throttle body? I still dont have a good grasp on how this stuff works. Any input would help.

I used some on my 96 Z28. I think it's basically the same thing as GM Top End Cleaner. You can find a fair amount of info at camaroz28.com. A lot of folks have used it without any issues. I have seen one or two that claimed it took out an O2 sensor, but it seems to be very rare. I haven't heard anybody ever say anything about it damaging plugs. I wouldn't put it in my oil ...just me, but I don't like putting anything extra in the oil.

Anyway, here's how I put it in my Z28. I used the non-aerosol form.

I put it in through the brake booster line. On the firewall in the engine compartment on the driver's side you can see a round black box. There's a rubber hose attached to it that leads to the intake manifold. I started the car and took the hose off. The engine will begin to rev and you stick your thumb over part of the opening to control engine speed. Very slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 of the contents in the tube being careful not to stall the engine. After you've put that amount in pour enough in to stall the engine. Let it sit for a bit (10-15min). And then restart it. It could take a couple tries. You'll see some black smoke from the exhaust. I reved mine a few times and then took it for a drive. Then I put the remaining amount in the gas tank.

I did exactly the same as Joe did. It didn't hurt my O2s, but I didn't notice any smoke, which most people do.

I guess its to clean out all the carbon in the combustion chamber.

I just stuck the brake booster hose into the can and it sucked in more than half and stalled out. I let it sit for 20-30 minutes and started it back up and it smoked for a while. Do it on a windy day though or you could have a nice smokescreen hanging around your house for a while.

Seafoam and GM top end cleaner are pretty good, but IMO the Justice Brothers stuff is better.
