Here goes, '97 Z28 88,000 miles, car has intermittent heat, coolant is clean core does not seem plugged because sometimes I get good heat, had new stat and heater hoses put on, [500.00], no luck, Dealer says its most likely the water puimp or a head gasket. Has anyone seen a water pump go on these without leaking? They want 600.00 for a new water pump. Probably my arm and both legs for a head gasket. I told them at 114.00 per hour I expect to hire an expert, not a remove and replace until I find it mechanic!!! This sucks because the car should have an opti, plugs and wires if the water pump has to come off. And no In Minnesota at this time of year, doing it myself is not an option. Is there any way to check a water pump for flow before replacing it? and what is the likelyhood of losing a head gasket on this car. I'm an old guy who does not race or beat the car.
