iight guys, that 350 in my garage needs a home and im in college. heres what i was thinking
    do a rebuild on it(stock re-ring kit)
    put a comp cam(magnum cam, 480 lift)
    port/polish heads
nice dual plane manifold(gasket match port)
ditch the tbi and get a 750/800(i think) Q-jet
some nice hooker shortie headers, and throw a random tech cat-back on there

with stock compression around 8.0:1 what do u think i will make with this set-up? im looking for something near 300hp.

What heads are you going to use? I'd recommend finding a set of cheap used L98 aluminum heads.

I'd also recommend a set of pistons that will increase the compression a little. at least 9.0, but I'm no expert.

You can find the L98 aluminum heads for under $200/pair.

        well worth it, IMO.
It's not worth the time messing around with a set of stock iron heads for that amount.

Don't like the combo. If you plan on keeping the stock rotating assembly, smaller chamber heads will be needed to bump the compression ratio for use with that cam. Also, if the heads are opened up and you use that cam, you might opt for a single plane or a high rise dual plane. Much will depend on what chassis the engine goes in. A heavy car will have different requirements that a lighter car, different for truck applications too. What is your intended useage?

Personally, I would stick with a stock rotating assembly. Next, a set of big valve 2.02 intake 1.94 exhaust iron heads with a slightly smaller combustion chamber giving you perhaps 9.0:1, 10.5:1 max. Then go with your cam, an edelbrock perfomer rpm manifold, all the associated exhaust and other intake parts coupled to a 3.73 rear gear. that package would be a strong street performer that should give you an honest 300 horses.
