  • Experiences with GM Parts Direct??

Please post if you have ordered anything from gmpartsdirect.com

I am looking for packaging and turnaround times. I am hoping this site is a good one as they have the LT4 timing set for 210 and even Dal at VanDevere is asking 242.00

Please let me know of your experience.

Get the shipping costs from both sources. gmpartsdirect has ridiculously high shipping costs. They openly admit on their website that is where they make their profit.

Also, try a "search" on the "General F-Body Tech & Info" forum, at CamaroZ28.com. There have been at least two threads over the last couple months with people complaining about delays in receiving items, and a lack of customer service at gmpartsdirect. Once one person posts, there are always a few other people adding on posts about their problems.

I've ordered from them several times but you have to be aware of how they operate.

If they have it in stock they are just as fast as anyone else.

If they do not have it in stock they do not notify you of that and they do not tell you when you will get it.

If you order 2 things and one of them is not in stock they will not ship anything until they get everything so they can ship it at one time. I ordered 2 things on separate orders just to get around this but they still didn't ship either even though 1 was in stock and they shipped both orders in 1 box.

If you are not in a hurry for anything they are fine except they don't tell you when it will ship if it is backordered.

I'm done ordering from them after my few experiences with them plus being able to order from Sam Taylor. I ordered head and intake gaskets from them and really needed to get them quickly but it took over 3 weeks to recieve them. I used the tracking number and saw that it wasn't shipped for over a week and a half after my order then was sent to a dealership in NC where it sat for nearly a week and then was sent to me. I have had a few things get to my door quickly but as Fred said the shipping is outrageous. Whenever I need a part I just go to www.samtaylor.com get their number quick and call them. I have never had to wait more than 3 days for a part the shipping was very reasonably priced and customer service is top notch.

GMPartsDirect is ok if you're looking to save some money but get the shipping estimate first. The basically source the parts request to whatever participating dealer has the stuff in stock. So you could end up getting parts from a dealer in Alaska and it takes 2-3 weeks. Otherwise, I would use their price to bargain with your local dealer.

well i work at a dealership and there prices blow ours out of the water basically, even though i work at a jeep/mitsubishi dealership we can still get discounted prices on gm parts. i had the parts manager call to find out about a ram air hood and a few small parts and for the hood gm asked 1400 to my dealership, gmpartsdirect asked around 1150(w/o shipping), the guy at gm was not happy at all when he found out i can get it cheaper

I've ordered several things from them. I believe it's hit or miss. Some things have shipped the next day, while others haven't - and I'm talking about weeks to months. You have to watch out for the "special order" items. If a part has a red asterisk, it means "you better not need it within the next several weeks." However, their prices are sometimes so cheap, it's still cheaper than most, even with the outrageous shipping costs.

As far as Dal and Cromer go, I've also had experience with both. Jason Cromer has awesome prices and shipping times, but the last time I asked for him, they sent me to the parts dept and quoted me retail prices. So I'm not sure what happened there.
Dal is a great guy...and probably my favorite. He got special order parts for me within one day and shipped it out really quickly. His prices might be a dollar or two higher than Jason or gmpartsdirect, but his low shipping costs and great customer service has made me a returning customer.

Okay, that's what I needed to hear. Even for thirty bucks it's worth it to get the better customer service.

Plus I can take a 20 minute drive to Akron to get it from where I am.

I need this chain to go on my stroker motor so it's kind of important considering it will be put together soon.

I used GMPartsdirect once, and was stabbed on the shipping...I've used Dal ever since, and even now when I've moved to Florida.

Since you are in Cleveland, it would be just plain wrong not to use Dal in Akron.
