Vavle Tapping?

Hello all again,

95 Trans Am again. I think I might have some valve tapping. I can hear a light tap-tap-tap that sound like it is coming from under the covers. I was wonder if there is any kind of milage or life service date that the clearances should be checked. She has 80k miles on her and has been run strong. I have a manual but was wondering if this is something that I should check and adjust myself, or have someone else do it. I am a mechanic, but I'm in the Air Force and I don't work on cars. Again, any sugestions or tips would be greatly apprecieated.

This can also be caused by injector tick.

Could be a rocker that has backed off, could be that a lifter has partially collapsed and is allowing slack in the valvetrain, could be detonation. Does it tick at idle or only under load?

Normally hydraulic valvetrains keep their lash setting for a very long time, but you never know. If you suspect it to be a lash problem, then it definitely wouldn't hurt to pull the covers.

I agree with Norman there. It also could be a very small exhaust leak also.

just a guess but mybe pvc valve clickling when opening and closeing.
