  • Changing plugs....

Has anyone here ever changed the plugs on a '98+ V6 Camaro? My car is now about 6 years old and still has the original plugs in it. I need to change them, but I am afraid to try if it is as hard as changing them on an LT/S-1. I am just not sure whether I should pay someone to do it, or do it myself. Can anyone give me some insight here?

I help a friend with his gf camaro 3.8. It's pretty hard, but not impossible. I believe that 98-99 had different headers compared to 2000+. 2000+ had tublar headers that made the change much easier than the old setup.

I believe it took a lil over 4 hours to do the job, but just take your time. It isn't has hard as it seems once you're under the car. The first two on the driverside can be taken from top, and one on the passenger side. The rest from the bottom. It's been awhile since we did the job.

Have ample lighting and plenty of extenders at can wobble the socket.

      You can do it!!!

Can someone describe to me the process of gapping the plugs? I have changed plugs before on my old '83 RX-7, but never gapped them. And would the specifications for gapping them be in the manual or would I need to get that from a Chilton or some such manual?

should be on the emssion decal(says engine size, has vacuum diagram, etc) and to gap them u need a spark plug gapper, its like 5$ at ur local autoparts store.

Most accurate would be to use a feeler gauge. Most common and cheapest would be to use a tapered gap gauge - 99¢ at Autozone.

                Time to Replace?

My 2000 Camaro V6 is going on its 6th year, but only has 72,000 miles. Maintenance schedule indicates changing them at 100,000 miles. Car is not missing so I would let them be until mileage has been reached. My GM link is a good site to keep up with maintenance. Check it out.
