This summer some of my fraternity brothers and I want to start a project car to work on and then sell at the end of summer. I recommended a f-body (2nd or 3rd gen), because there is no computer to worry about in the older ones, alot of information about them (on and off the internet), massive part avaible to us new and in junkyards, and well, i own an f-body and i love them. Turns out my buddy's brother owns a 79 10th anniverserrey TA, with two different engine blocks. One is probably stock, the other is 4xx cubic inches (im really not to sure). The car doesnt start, but he is willing to part with both engines and the car for 500 bucks. The body is in good enough condition, and the interior is pretty solid. There will be around 5 guys working on this car, all with varying experience, from beginner to pretty damn good. One of us also as a degree in body work/paint from a local community college. The idea is to completely take everything out from under the hood, and clean, fix and replace anything and everything. Body/paint is also a must, while trying to get the inside looking as new a possible. The idea for this not only to be a summer project but a learning experience for all of us.

What do you guys think. What things should i be worried about, or looking for. What are the pro's for choosing f-body's as opposed to other "muscle cars" of the same era. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Sounds like a fun project.... But you need to decide who owns the car when its finished & whos paying for parts. There is nothing better than money to rip friendships apart (Except females of course.)

I was going to say the same thing... who owns it and who is paying for it?

You could all share the expenses and then sell it and split the money when it is completed. You may or may not not get back your investments.

It's been decided that all monetary investments will be paid back upon sale. If we make money it will be split evenly irregardless of skill or work. Im real tight with these guys, we are "brothers" in the same fraternity. So you guys think this is worthwhile?

I dont think the market is really good for that year. You may have a hard time selling it.

And what if there is not enough money from the sale to pay everybody back? You could spend $3000 fixing it up and not find a buyer willing to pay $3500 for it.

Look the car over carefully, if you are confident you guys can do what needs to be done with a cost that will still make the car profitable, go for it. Be carefull.

I recently bought a 94 Camaro for $500 and will have a total of $1500 in it after my restoration work is complete including the cost of the car. I'm sure I will be able to sell it and make money.
