  • what is hub centric?

wheels on my gto are hub centric--i got 20" wheels off my 1999 t/a and i sure would like them to fit--i was wondering if maybe i bought those adapters so you can put f-bod wheels on s-10's or if they would bolt on---someone help---thanks

I think hub centric wheel adapters and spacers are different, for each vehicle. You want to make sure you get the propper spacer or adapter that fits the car you are putting the wheels on.So you will not burn out the wheel or hub bearings.Hope this helps.---jack

Hubcentric wheels are properly positioned by the center of the wheel which will fit precisely on the hub as opposed to the lug nuts & studs positioning the wheel.

"Hub-centric" means that the spacer (or your original GTO wheels) will be held centered on the hub/axle centerline by the inside diameter of the hub hole in the spacer or wheels. The inside diameter of the hole in the spacer or wheel is just a shade larger than the diameter on the axle hub, for tight fit.

Your 99 T/A wheels are "lug-centric".... the wheels has a loose fit over the axle hub, and the wheel is kept centered on the axle by the conical lug nut seats.

In order to use adapters (spacers will not work) to mount a T/A wheel on a GTO, you would need hub-centric adapter, with the correct 5x120mm bolt pattern for the GTO axle, and a second set of studs to mount the lug-centric 5x120.65mm T/A wheels.

Then you would have to consider the wheel width and the offset. That determines if the wheel is centered side-to-side in the wheel well. I think the GTO has a relatively limited wheel well (compared to the 4th Gen F-Body) so a very wide wheel with the incorrect offset, coupled with the necessary thickness of an adapter that would change the GTO bolt pattern to the T/A wheel bolt pattern would seem to indicate you are attempting to fit 3# of poop in a 2# bag, so to speak.

          thanks injuneer and others

The first thing i noticed wa how tightly fit the wheel wells were on the gto the 20" wheels i have have a 2 inch lip on them where as the factory gto wheels offset is much different--no lip at all---if i can't get them to work i'll have a 3 month old set of 20's with less then 300 miles on them for sale to f-buds----good thing i hadn't installed my zex wet kit on the t/a yet--it has the illuminated red rapid fire purge---even if i just use it for show--it will be cool www.msnusers.com/richards99transam
