  • NFB: Would you believe.... a "ViperCuda" !!!

I had my car in the shop for some dyno pulls on Wednesday, and it wasn't a good day.... seems that about 100HP was missing. We're working in it - I think its a nitrous flow problem, because there was enough fuel to bottom out the wide-band at 10.4:1 . Odd thing is that absolutely nothing has been changed since a year ago when it pulled 617rwHP (635 "uncorrected").

So.... there in the shop is an early 70's Barracuda coupe, brand new irridescent paint job, full cage.... and a Viper V10 stuffed under the hood. They were trying to develop an interface to use a MoTeC engine management system to drive 10 direct fire LS1 style coils.

Thought some of the "older" folks... the guy/gals that remember things like the "HemiCuda".... might want to drool a little.

That sounds like a FUN project. It should be a beast. The saddest thing in the world! ...There are TWO Cudas stripped down for painting at a shop near my home. The restoration shop restored and painted them, but the owner never paid. They have sat out in front of the shop still stripped down, hailed on, rained in, and pretty much rotting away now for three years. If any more time passes, I am going to offer the owner something for at least one of them. I don't know if they were a small block or a 440 six pack, but they are still cool. I would love to have a 440 6pack Cuda...what a beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Chrysler is smart, they will drop that new 5.7 semi-hemi into a new Cuda plateform...I would buy it!

I wonder how well an E body will handle with that big engine in there - I know they were understeering and underbraking bad with the 440 & Elephant, which were real heavy engines. I guess if the owner can afford a Viper crate engine, he can build the suspension and add some beefy brakes which would make it one hell of a car. That Silver 69 Viper charger featured about a year ago was just stunning. It would also be awesome in a Road Runner.

just a guess, but I wouldn't think the viper v-10 would weigh more than a 440......... if anything I think it would be under that weight.

and yeah, a viper engine is anything but cheap.

There was 1 built about 4 -5 years ago. Seen it in a Mopar Magazine, and at the Mopar Nats. Blue with white stripes. AWESOME CAR.

Can you imagine a custom fabricated intake manifold with a roots style polished blower? That would really get my blood flowing.

A guy had a V10 Viper motor in a Cobra kit car at a car show I went to the other week. Seems like these engines are starting to get out and about within the hot rodding world...

That's a nice Cuda. But for the $12,000 crate motor, I would take the GM Ramjet 502 which is a complete engine with fuel injection and computer for under $9000.

Maybe he wanted to keep his Mopar "all Mopar".... even if it was an overweight cast iron truck engine....

It looked like a tight squeeze. I can't imagine how the front brakes will work. I can't see the car ever pulling the front end.... There was a Viper T-56 sitting on the floor next to the car. Good chance to look over the differences between the F-Body T-56 and the Viper unit. The Viper appears to use a conventional pusher type clutch with a huge/heavy clutch fork, and the input shaft looks beefier. I think the shifter location is moved slightly too.
