Brake Question

I was investigating squeeky brakes today. I bought new pads just in case I needed them. Anyway, reading through the service manual and nowhere does it say to grease the pads. Normally you grease between the pad and caliper and pad and shims, right?



Anyway, long story short...didn't need the pads, but it was really cruddy in there. Scrubbed the shims and got off as much junk as I could. Test drive tomorrow as I ran out of light today.

No, you grease the sliders in the calipers themselves. There should be some sort of anti squeal shim between the caliper and the pad. The factory used a paper composite gasket, most times those get trashed. There is an anti squeal compound that can be applied, I've even seen some people use a thin skin of silicone. The object is to quell vibrations that occur between the pad and the caliper that caused brake squeal.

go to auto parts store, buy brake quite or be like me and get a combo lube and anti squeal for a whopping 5$

Ok...that all makes sense. I did put a little bit of lube in there. I'll see how it does tomorrow. I'm glad I dug around though. I may have to replace the front calipers. There was a little rust on the inside of the pistons.

Just fine...nice and smooth.

Test drive went well. Definitely quieter...at least I know the condition now. Hardest part was getting the wheels off. Not anymore though!
