My friend and I set out to do this. We (he really - I was helping) went out and bought the fiero, the chevy 350, and did alot of research. Very do-able and it didnt look too hard, but we never finished the project. He got a great deal on a t-type and the fiero went by the wayside.

Check out v8archie.com. Good site. Theres lots of info out there on this. Chewing up trannys is the biggest problem. Start with the 5 speed manual car. There is a specific 5 speed to look for, but the model escapes me right now.

I know there are a few Fiero's out there with V8's, they should be a blast to drive. I even found a '95 JY on Trader.ca with an LT1 in it...........I might just have to trade my stock 4.0L YJ in on that one!!!

I've seen a couple in my area. One has an LT1 in it and the other has a Northstar in it. Yes, it can be done....

V8 Fieros are great little toys. Fieros can be had pretty cheaply. Most of the hot rod world has over looked these cars, but the engine bay is big enough for SBCs, Northstars, 3800 SCs, 4.x V8 Caddy motors, 3400 TDCs, etc. etc. I have a '84 with a 350 TPI and the Getrag 5 speed - it makes for a wonderful sleeper.

The comment on the tranny is dead on. Actually it's the clutch that's the limitation. Many have worked on some innovated solutions, but when you get up into the 350-400 HP range, it gets expensive.

There is an amazing amount of support for these cars, as well. The V8Archie link is a good one for the V8 kits. Another is www.fiero.nl, which is a message board similar to this one.

Here's one that was at a local show in WI. It looks like a vette motor, but I can't tell if it was a LT4 or LT1 - probably a LT1 since the TB had a LT1 plate on it. Very cool. Not easy to work on - kind of like a F-Body

On another forum I saw a Miata with an LS1 in it and a newer RX7 also with an LS1. The miata would be a BLAST to drive. I've always imagined doin that.

Once I drop the new motor in the GN, I'll be rebuilding the original one to drop into my 84 Fiero. That should really haul butt.
