  • Weak spots in 2000 'birds?

I'm getting ready to look at a 2000 Firehawk (75kmi) next weekend, what's known week spots of our cars at that age to watch out for? (can't take my 98 Camaro to compare, as it's just ran ~30kmi to date, summer only, garage-kept). As far as I know the car is mostly stock ...
    Tnx!

      drive it:

      listen for rattles.
      See if the steering pulls
      how does the transmission shift?
      does the engine hesitate?
      any trouble lights on?
do the gauges read proper temperature, volts and oil presure?
does everything work.. turn signals, horn, wipers....

      Inspect the interior:
Look at the rubber pads on the pedals for wear.
Look at the edge of the drivers seat for wear
make sure the top of the dash is not cracked
Inspect the carpet and seats for stains. tears or other blemishes
      Does the CD player work?
      any blown speakers?

      look at the exterior
inspect both front and rear bumpers for spiderwebbing in the paint
Inspect the radiator support for damage that would indicate an accident
Look for dings/dents in the quarterpanels
      check the tires for treadwear
Keep an eye for rust on the chasis, or on any metal edges.
      Look for any peeling clearcoat
look at the overall condition of the paint
Look for any sign it has been repainted.

      Inspect the engine bay:
check all fluids. Smell the fluids for burnt odors.
look for any signs of leaks or dampness
      is the air filter clean?
listen to it run with the hood open. Is the valvetrain excessively noisy?
put your hand on the plenum, does it run smoothly or is it shaking?

      Look under the car
Any sign of it going "off roading"?
Any leaks at the front or rear main seals?
      Is the pinion seal leaking?
      Any rust?
Are the brakes pads and rotors in good shape? Are they grooved?

A firehawk would have an 8 cylinder.

woops, didn't notice you said firehawk.

The main known problems for LS1 f-bods are the oil pumps, and premature piston ring wear. I hear a lot of them start to consume oil after a while, and you get some blowby. And of course, the rear end is pretty weak, as with all f-body's.
