1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear synchros can be changed easily. 4th will need a press to press off the gear. If you replace the bearings, you will need a shim kit to get the end play right. There is a place in Atlanta called Southern Gear that rebuilds them and sells a rebuild kit. I'm sure there are many more around the country. I think the kit was around $200. The synchros are about $20 a piece. Also the aluminum input shaft housing are notorious for wearing bad. The throw out bearing rides on it and wears it out. I have seen companies that sell new steel ones for around $50. Aluminum ones are like $30.
Oh, I didn't answer your question. My Haynes manual has the rebuild in it.
What are your symptoms?
OH, and what do you play?

Sounds like it might need the input bearing. I was going to suggest just replacing the synchros on 1,2, and 3 and skipping the bearing to avoid needing the press but you will need a press to press on the bearing on the input shaft.
One of the steps is to hang the trans from the input shaft and put an indicator on the output shaft. The in-out play of the shaft is within some number. It would be a pain in the garage. I paid to have mine rebuilt and it was $562.xx . They replaced 3rd gear and the input shaft housing in that.
The input shaft sometimes wears on one side which cocks the throw out bearing. If it is cocked, it could drag and spin with the clutch out. Another words it could be the throw out bearing.
I started to rebuild mine but when it got to the point of needing the press and reading how to adjust the end play, I took it to the pro.
Cool! I guess you see my avatar. I started playing the T-bone when I was senior in high school. I wish I had started with it. I also wish I had started playing the guitar in high school. Maybe I could play it now. LOL Les Paul on a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe http://www.fender.com/gear/gear.php?partno=0213202000 . Man it sounds good. I just wish I did. I bought my daughter a Fender Mex P bass special a couple of weeks ago. http://www.fender.com/gear/gear.php?partno=01357002002 Electron Blue Vette, 1SC, FE3/Z51, G92 3.15 gears, 308.9 RWHP 321.7 RWTQ (before any mods), SLP headers, Z06 exhaust, MSD Ignition Wires, AC Delco Iridium Spark Plugs, 160 t-stat, lots of ECM tuning
