This may answer your question.

From what I remember, you can get the stock heads ported, and they will flow better than the stock lt4s. The hotcam isn't that great at making power, and the lt4 valvesprings are close to their limits with the hotcam and 1.6 rockers. Most people seem to agree that you would be better off getting your heads ported, and have the porter help you find a matching valvetrain. I'm sure that others, who either have the lt4 kit, or who went the custom route, can tell you how their motor turned out.95 A4 Z28 with 146K miles

Not sure if you can even buy the LT4 conversion kit any more. I know they have discontinued the LT4 intake manifold.
If you want everything in a neat little package, the conversion kit was an "ok" deal. The LT4 HOT cam is sort of mild, and the as-cast LT4 heads will only net you a 15% flow increase over your stock LT1 heads. The HP claims for the LT4 package were somewhat overstated at 425 (flywheel) HP. That was from an engine dyno test by More Performance, using a "bare" engine (no accessories), and tuned with a $3,000+ aftermarket ECU. I suspect the upper limit for the LT4 package would be around 400 flywheel HP.
Packages like the ones available from Lloyd Elliott seem to offer more bang for the buck.
