  • Trouble after a new trans mount?

As i had posted a couple weeks ago i had a new trans mount put in, as my old one had gone real bad. After i got my car i had what sounded like a metal against metal noise, not a grinding, but as if something was moving around.... the guys at the shop told me that this was normal as the new trans mount was new and firm and everything else had 103000 miles of wear on it, and not to worry. Well now the noise is almost gone, but still remains during 1st and 2nd gear up to 2300 rpms, and is most evident while the car is somewhat cool still, usually during the first 5 or 6 miles of driving. After that the noise seems to disappate. Are metal these metal noise usually associated with a new trans mount, or should i go back to the shop and explain whats going on. the car is a 5 speed.

On another note, i just picked up a bottle of seafoam. Where are some vacuum lines i can put the seafoam in on a 3800 series 2 motor (97 camaro)?

Well, the entire purpose of the rubber/poly trans mount is to isolate drivetrain vibration and movement from the chassis. So IMO, a metal to metal noise ain't good.

Most people put top end cleaners such as Seafoam into the brake booster hose. Pull the booster end of the hose out of the booster and then follow the instructions.

The black round thing right behind your brake master cylinder.

If you can make the noise happen on demand, take it back.

That crap about the transmount being new causing a problem is a bunch of shit.

You're old transmount was probably fully or nearly fully split, letting the tail housing flop all over the place. If they replaced it with a new one, now the motion should be controlled again and no clunk/contact sort of noises should be coming up.

A harder transmount would transmit more vibration, not cause any sort of clunk/contact issues. It's possible they snapped a bolt, used the wrong mount, something like that.

It's also possible you couldn't pick up this noise before because the mount was letting louder noises over-ride it, and now that the mount is good, you can pick up this unrelated noise.

i dont think there was any other noises that the bad transmount could have muffled because there wasnt any other MAJOR noise (the mount has been broken for a while). I'm gonna take the car back tommorow and have them look at it, just to make sure that any major problems are fixed before they have a chance at blossuming. I'll keep you all updated, and hopefully this isnt a big deal

One other thing to check. Not sure what mount you got, but the Energy Suspension mounts come with a plate that they say you're supposed to put in. However, this plate also lifts the tailshaft, thus throwing off the angle of the slip-yoke and driveshaft. If whatever mount you have also has that plate, take it out and it should go away. Just a thought.
