  • Questions on High Performance Pulleys

My Formula is going into the shop for repainting, but I am smelling some coolant in both the interior, and around the engine bay. But it hasnt overheated yet. I am guessing its time to replace the water pump and thermostat. So if I am going to do this I want to also replace all my pulleys at the same time. So where can I buy High performance Pulleys to add to my 2001 stock 5.7 engine? So I can free up some horsepower. And Do I need to get a high Performace water pump and alternator to match? Or can those pulleys stay stock? Any help asap would be appreciated since my car is only a couple of weeks away from complete repainting with a ram air hood. I will post before and after pics.

When I got a coolant smell inside my car, it was the heater matrix... not a nice job! Are your carpets damp at all?

As I said in your other post, your coolant smell problem is probably the heater core. If your passenger side carpeting is damp, that would be confirmation of the heater core. If it's not damp, that doesn't neccessarily mean it's not the heater core though.

If yu do change pulleys, you'll need new belts. The pulley manufacturer should be able to tell you what size belt you'll need. Everything else can stay stock.

I know I hated doing heater core jobs.. I am really worried about getting my dash removed.. It never goes back on the same then starts all the noises. Does the whole dash have to be removed to get the heater core out? I am thinking just to by pass it because I wont be planning to use it in the winter.

Its easy to bypass, but I dont know if thats a good idea. You dont plan on using it during the winter? Without it, you wont have heat or a defroster. Unless you live in the tropics, I know you need your defroster in the morning.

However, if you do want to bypass it, all you have to do is remove the two heater hoses that run into the firewall & use a u-bend to connect them together.
