  • Fuel Pump Dying?

    How would you know?

    My car was shut down for a week while I sent her PCM to be flashed. I installed the PCM back in and took a drive. Everything ran like clock work, but I noticed a hmmming-whine from the back. I put my ears over the tank and sure enough its coming from the fuel pump region. Can't be anything else except for the pump.

    It comes on periodically and ever so faint. There isn't any spuddering and she feels fine...

    I'm a little tight on money so I don't want to spend the cash on a new pump...you think this whine is indication that the pump is about to go?

    Start up fine also, you can hear it prime the lines and injectors.

    how much gas is in the tank? also, a dirty clogged pump will whine because it's trying to suck fuel through debri.

      Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, and look for at least 40psi at max engine load/RPM. Anything less than that and you have a problem with the pump, the filter or the regulator.
