  • Cooling fan?

I have a 91 camaro with the 3.1 V-6 (yes I know, I'm working on going bigger). It seems like the car get way to hot before the fan turns on, the temp gauge reads about 220. Once the fan kicks in it drops quickly. Is this the normal temp? If so is there a sensor you can buy or a way to make it go on sooner, it just seems really hot under the hood.

Sounds pretty normal, but I don't know the exact specs. Sorry, I don't know what options there are for a 1991 as far as fan control goes.

Unfortunately thats normal temp. I believe that companies like Hypertech and SLP make a fan switch that kicks em on earlier. Not sure though. You can always wire up a toggle switch and relay to kick them on when you want.

        Lower temp t-stat

Can you get a lower temp Thermostat for 3.1? Would cause car to try and run cooler.

I know how you feel by the way, couple years ago I had a 2.8 Firebird. Looked good, but always felt inferior on the street.

        But it wasn't a wagon/sedan/minivan/mustang, It was an F-Body damn-it , and I was proud.

Now I'm styling a little better...

A lower temp thermostat will only make the car run cooler when there is sufficient air going by the radiator. It doesnt matter what t stat you got when your idling in traffic. On the open road, yes, the t-stat makes a difference. Idling - you gotta get those fans on earlier.
