  • Rebuilding 4l60e

I read on another website forum some guys talking about rebuilding the 4l60e tranny between 75 and 100 thousand miles.

I've got about 75,000 on mine now, is it really about time for a rebuild?

Mine went out at 127k due to a fluid leak. I wouldn't rebuild it yet, it's an expensive venture.

Mine died at 70k But mine had a very hard life, for a start v6 so gets pushed harder...
Rebuild was expensive, then failed again at 90k! got new box under warranty!
Like said above, dont fix what aint broken! Change ya gear box oil regular, with quality oil and ya should get maximum life out of it. When You eventually get rebuild get all the mods (extra clutch plates etc) last you longer!

186K and still shifts smooth. My rearend saw a rebuild already. Going to add a deep pan and tranny cooler this spring...should have done it long ago though. IT'll keep it cool and from failure due to heat.

Over 102k on my bad boy and still going strong without missing a beat. Hopefully it stays that way till at least next yr on the next phase project on my ride.

At 102K miles, I broke the low sprag, cracked the sun shell and by then the clutches were paper thin. When you do a rebuild, be sure to get a hardened sun shell, 23 element low sprag, trans fluid cooler and upgraded clutches. Those parts will help it live a longer life.
