  • Sounding like a dragster!

Ok not forgetting its only a 3.4l v6! my car sounds like a dragster when I start it up from cold. Firing on only 4 or 5 cylinders...?
Plugs r good, wires only 10k old...
Would have guessed at injectors, but fine after 2mins or 10 secs at 3000rpm...
    any ideas?
    Also smoke out of back...
Please dont tell me piston rings or stem seals etc ( cause i'll !)
Think this car is nearly fully refurbished now, cant be much left to go wrong!
    Any idea's??????

Are you saying its loud like a dragster? Because that would indicate an exhaust leak somewhere close to the engine. (Easy Fix)

If you mean it idles rough like a dragster, it could be a number of things ranging from easy to rather difficult.
    No F-Body right now

I think he means idle like a dragster. See if your getting spark at each wire. If so.. Check the plugs. Any dry roited vac lines or maybe one poped off. Any hissing sounds like a vac line leaking.

When I first bought my car. It was doing that. Most of the vacuum lines were dry roited and had small leaks. I just replaced them all. Most of your vacuum lines are on your intake manifold to the various components. PCV valve, fuel pressure regulator, egr valve, purge, etc. Did you verify all wires are getting spark to the plugs? No check engine light?

yer im getting spark, and no relavant codes....
Guess the way forward is to check and replace pipes then...
The engine is fine soon as its warmed up a bit! really rough at first though..

Could be a leaky injector. Fuel drips into the cylinder upon shutdown and causes a really over rich and rough idle until it all clears out.

DO you park it outside overnight? You could have moisture in the wires which makes it run like crap til it warms up. New wires helps, but so does parking it in a garage. I had an old truck that did that same thing til I changed the wires.
