  • TPS bad?

okay, like i said in my last post below, i started driving my car again after the winter snow, it was about 3 months. the first time taking it out i was on the way to school and my car started to bog down when i would press the gas peddle, as though i started loosing power.. so i let off the gas peddle and pressed it again, did the same thing. I got it to school and parked it. after school i got in it and it seemed fine...this has me confuzled..this went on for a few time of driving it and then it seemed to go away. my question is do you think the TPS got a flat spot in it while it was sitting so long..could it be the moister? the ECM? Thanks for the feedback.

You'll find a scanner very helpful. I feel that it should be one of the first tools that a person purchases in order to figure out what goes on. With such a device, you could observe the voltage change from the TPS to either confirm or rule it out quickly. Without using a scanner, everything else is a guess.

I actually use a TechII scanner for GM. I go to a tech school so that is helpful. I have hooked it up to a scanner and the TP sensor did throw a code. I recently cleared the codes and probably monday i will hook it up again and see if there is yet another code..if their is im thinkin the sensor works when it wants to and probably needs replaced. Could a flat spot in the sensor still be an option?

Yes...... observe the voltage from the TPS thoughout it's full range of operation. Any bad spots will show up.
